Preserving the History

In the fall of 1837, a small Methodist congregation began the search to find land to build a new church building.  That fall, an acre of land was purchased from John Robertson for $20, and by winter, the “little log church on Pine Creek” was ready for services.  One of the older recorded graves in the Cemetery is Robert Wilson, an early Trustee of the Church, who passed away on November 18, 1841.

The Ingomar M.E. Church Cemetery Corporation was chartered in 1916, cutting all religious and financial ties to the now Ingomar Church.  The Cemetery is a private, not-for-profit, non-sectarian corporation governed by a Board of Trustees.  They serve on a volunteer basis and receive no salary.  The Trustees oversee the management of cemetery care, lot sales, recordkeeping, and finances.

Ingomar M.E. Church Cemetery Corporation hires independent maintenance contractors to perform all grave excavation, land improvement, and lawn care services.

Ingomar M.E. Church Cemetery is supported by income from a Perpetual Endowment Fund that has continued to grow since 1916 (thanks to sound investment practices by both past and present Treasurers), service fees from interments, cremations, and tax-deductible contributions from individuals.  Each year, the Cemetery adds new funds to its endowment from the sale of new interment space to ensure adequate resources for future maintenance.

The Ingomar M.E. Church Cemetery has expanded to a pastoral setting of 6 acres over the years. We have many plots available for sale.

The Cemetery has played a key historical role in the development of the North Hills communities.  We wish to preserve the history of this place and honor the lives of those who have been, and continue to be, laid to rest here since 1837.
